SEARCY, Ark. (KAIT) – It’s ridiculously hot outside, so a cool gym is the place to be.
Tuesday marked the last day of Harding Team Camp. 38 high school girl basketball teams were in action, 12 from Region 8.
Paragould just completed a run to the 5A State Quarterfinals. Most of this team is back. Head coach Sonja Tate wants her Lady Rams to build this summer.
“Well, we’ve been playing pretty well this summer,” Tate said. “We really deal with it defensively, executing our offense. Really just trying to get to know each other. I have a pretty good group of starters coming back. There are also a fair amount of newcomers. The mix is really good. So the bigger ones, I call them big sister, deal type little sister. We execute and work very well.
The Harding Team Camp also features familiar faces in new locations. Jason Smith was Nettleton’s all-time winningest coach, now at Greene County Tech. Tim Hawkins has achieved a big turnaround at Wynne, he is now the Lady Raiders’ new head coach. Mitchell Weber guided his alma mater Rector to the 2A state quarterfinals, he now wears red at Brookland.
The coach carousel is going full throttle, you’ll hear the trio on Wednesday’s sports broadcasts.
