Hernando Sun All-County Boys and Girls Basketball Teams 2021-2022

The Hernando Sun covers high school sports throughout the school year and with the end of the high school basketball season not too long ago, I put together the Hernando Sun All-County teams for boys and girls. Every team that was covered in the county will be featured in the All Counties squads of the 2021-22 campaign. Teams from all counties are compiled based on regular season stats, team achievements and regular season performances.

Below is the 2021-2022 Hernando Sun All-County Boys Basketball Team.

Guard – Charlie Marsh, Weeki Wachee, SR: The Weeki Wachee Hornets have had a rebound season themselves. The Hornets were almost over the .500 mark and much of that can be attested to by Marsh. The senior guard finished the season averaging 15.9 points per game in 24 games played for Weeki Wachee.

Guard – Tre Joyner, Central, SR: The Bears were once again one of the best teams in the county and the senior guard played like one of the best players in Hernando County bar none. Central went deep in the playoffs and Joyner averaged 19.3 points per game and also added 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.8 steals.

Striker – RJ Wilson, Hernando, JR: Wilson was one of the toughest players inside the county’s painted area. Playing 23 games, Wilson finished with a team-high 12.6 points and also added averages of 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.7 steals.

Forward – Canyon Anderson, Nature Coast, JR: The junior forward was one of the team’s top scorers and had a strong junior season. In the Nature Coast Christmas Tournament, Anderson was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Sharks finished 13-14 this season.

Center – Ronnie Roberts, Springstead, SR: The senior center has been a mainstay in Springstead’s front court throughout the season. Roberts led the Eagles in many statistical categories, averaging 12.5 points per game and 6.7 rebounds.

Utility – Jacob Gallop, Hernando Christian Academy, SR: Although the Lions didn’t have a great record on the field at 5-16, Gallop himself had another stellar season. The junior guard averaged 26.5 points, 16.9 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game, a team high.

Below is the 2021-22 Hernando Sun All-County Women’s Basketball Team.

Guard – Paige Atwater, Weeki Wachee, SW: The sophomore guard was the key cog in the Hornets’ race to a district championship and the playoffs. Atwater had a strong first season and averaged 12.2 points per game, 1.7 assists and 2.2 steals.

Guard – Sy Crowley, Hernando, SR: Crowley helped make the Hernando Leopards one of the best teams in the county at 17-6, and his backcourt presence was huge throughout the season. The senior guard led the Leopards with 19.4 points per game with 9.7 rebounds per game.

Guard – Lydia Jackson, Hernando, JR: Aside from teammate Sy Crowley, Jackson was the next player in line Hernando relied on during his 17-6 season. The junior shooter averaged 10.5 points per game, 2.7 steals and shot 41% from the field for the Leopards.

Forward – Princess Hester, Weeki Wachee, SR: The Hornets themselves had a great rebounding season at 20-8 and senior center Princess Hester was a big reason why. Hester is averaging a team-high 13.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

Centre- Heaven Lee, Nature Coast, SR: The Sharks’ senior center was once again one of the best players in the Tampa Bay area. Lee averaged a team-high 18.0 points per game and also knocked down 5.8 boards per contest.

Utility – Emma Dedmon, Hernando Christian, SR: The Lions went 5-16 last season and the team is going through a rebuild. James will be a player they will miss dearly as the senior averaged 9.2 points per night for Hernando Christian Academy.
