In preparation for the first Red Bull Half Court in Jordan, we caught up with basketball star Rubi Habash to talk about the street style tournament and give you some tips to help you improve your skills ahead of your qualifying rounds!
TIP #1: LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS
A skill that is very important to focus on is the player’s court penetration skill, where he must focus on his intermediate or reverse layups; as the field is smaller, the players are more crowded and there is only one net. So focusing on layups can improve your game and increase your chances of winning and/or scoring.
Each game at Red Bull Half Court lasts only 10 minutes! It is therefore very important to use every second to your advantage. Work in threes, concentrate and make sure you use as much time as possible to score and communicate effectively with your team.
In basketball, you always defend with your back to the net, but in 3×3 it’s the other way around. Since the mechanics of the match are different, the goal here is to keep the ball away from the net as much as possible while the opposing team is attacking.
As the saying goes: teamwork makes the dream come true! In all team sports, it is always important to work in threes and as a team. Define your strategy, plan and coordinate. You cannot win a 3×3 match by yourself; the power of 3 is key.
A round of applause for Rubi for these simple good tips to always keep in mind for the next 3×3 match!
