Scotland have revealed their 3×3 basketball squads for this month’s Commonwealth Games.
British international Gareth Murray, featured on each of the two times 5×5 basketball has played at the Games, will player-coach the men’s team alongside fellow Gold Coast and Glasgow Rocks Fraser Malcolm and Jonny Bunyan and Nottingham Hoods. guard Kyle Jimenez.
The women’s squad includes Commonwealth Games debutants Leicester Riders guard Hannah Robb, Sian Phillips of the now defunct Caledonia Pride, London Lions guard Kennedy Leonard and Essex Rebels striker Claire Paxton who was chosen for “tactical reasons” in front of Erin McGarrachan.
It’s the only change from the men’s and women’s foursomes that cemented qualification for the Games earlier this year at a national qualifying tournament in Largs.
Murray said: “I’m really proud to be putting on a Scottish shirt again at the Commonwealth Games. Melbourne, and then Gold Coast in particular, have been fantastic experiences and I’m truly honored to lead our team at what is, in effect, a home Games.
Scotland’s women’s 3×3 wheelchair team, which will face Australia and South Africa in Group B, includes Paralympians Robyn Love and Jude Hamer, alongside Jessica Whyte and Lynsey Speirs.
England are yet to reveal their squads with the men’s roster expected to include Myles Hesson and Jamell Anderson and women’s Temi Fagbenle and Chantelle Handy.
