Southside boys’ and girls’ basketball teams advance to Final Four in Birmingham | Sports

After thrilling victories on Monday night at the Crampton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery, the Southside boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are heading to the State Basketball Final Four!

The final tournament will take place on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at BJCC Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Lady Panthers, led by head coach Cedric Brown, led a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter to secure a 32-29 win over TR Miller.

Southside were trailed by Jakeria Robinson, who finished with 12 points.

Lady Panthers Senior Khaleah Shanks was named regional player of all basketball tournaments and Junior Caliyah Donaldson was the tournament MVP.

On the boys side, the Panthers beat Cottage Hill of Mobile, AL 64-53. Southside was trailed by senior guard Christopher Thomas, who finished with 26 points and was also named tournament MVP. Thomas and fellow senior Ja’Taveon Spears were named to the regional all-tournament basketball team.

Southside head coach Kelvin Lett is no stranger to tournaments. As a player, he led his team Selma Saints to the 1993 state semi-finals.

Coach Lett said he was very proud of this group of young men and they deserved it for all the hard work they put in, and

also wanted to thank all the fans for their support. “I must commend the coaching staff, administrators, cheerleaders, superintendent and school board…Thank you!”

The Southside Girls will take on Susan Moore of Blountsville, Alabama on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 12 p.m. The Southside boys will face Winfield on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.

Both matches will be played at BJCC Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.
