George Russell reveals how his experience with Williams helps him at Mercedes

The British driver joined world champions Mercedes at the start of the season. But the beginning of their partnership did not go as one might have thought. The German team has struggled for performance and is currently trailing the frontrunners on pure pace.

But luckily Russell has some experience driving non-competitive cars during his F1 career. He drove a substandard Williams car for the first three seasons in F1 before joining Mercedes. He revealed his Williams driving experience came in handy.

“Maybe with my struggles at Williams driving very difficult cars, maybe that helped in some ways. Q1 and Q2 for us now are hugely important whereas before for Mercedes it was a game of play. As a kid, it was almost a prep session to get ready for Q3. mentioned George.

Russell has definitely become familiar with a faster W13 than his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Given his consistent Top 5 performances at the start of the season, it’s safe to say that George has made himself at home at the Mercedes camp.

Moreover, he believes his world champion teammate can bounce back at any time during the season. All he has to do is keep delivering performance consistently and help the team make the car faster. It would be interesting to see how he fares in Miami as this is a brand new track for Formula 1. Will George be able to maintain his top 5 ranking streak on Sunday?
